Project Profile: Carroll Independent School District Disaster Recovery Center / Data Center
E&A was retained by Carroll ISD in connection with the development and implementation of the 2009 Bond Program. The Bond Program included the design and development of a new district-wide fiber optic wide area network interconnecting all district facilities, including the development of a disaster recovery center (DRC) / data center.
The DRC would serve as the district’s primary data center prior to the completion and cut-over to the newly planned data center and administration facility. The DRC opened in the fall of 2010, and includes redundant power distribution and HVAC systems, gaseous and pre-action fire suppression. Cooling is via downdraft CRAC units with damperable supply and return air via hot and cold aisle configurations.
The DRC features a secure storage area, a network operations area, and a separate and secure demarc room and staging area. The DRC demarc is served by dual-path fiber optic entrances from the wide area network.
The DRC layout and design has been designed to be scaleable and to support high density file servers for planned desktop and server virtualization.
E&A’s professional services included design consultation, layout, cabling design, submittal review, contract administration services, and project closeout for technology systems and infrastructure.
